Immigration Canada Opens 6 New Immigration Programs on May 6th, 2021. Find out if you’re eligible.
On April 14, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a temporary public policy that will allow 90,000 essential workers, international students, and francophones in Canada to apply for permanent residency. This public policy comes into effect on May 6, 2021 and will end on November 5, 2021 or once the intake cap of the applicable stream has been reached, whichever comes first.
The new immigration programs are meant for candidates who are already residing in Canada. IRCC aims to admit up to 90,000 new permanent residents under these streams:
20,000 applications for temporary workers in health care;
30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected essential occupations;
40,000 applications for international students who graduated from a Canadian institution
There will not be any intake caps for French-speaking candidates in Canada as per the following:
French-speaking international student graduates;
French-speaking essential workers in healthcare;
French-speaking essential workers in other occupations.
Eligibility Criteria:
Graduates and workers must also be proficient in one of Canada's official languages (English and/or French), meet general eligibility requirements, be in Canada and be authorized to work at the time of application to be eligible.
Workers must have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in a health-care profession or another pre-approved essential occupation.
International graduates must have completed an approved Canadian post-secondary program within the last four years, and no earlier than January 2017.
