A Record Breaking Express Entry Draw With a Minimum CRS of 75

On February 13, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 27,332 candidates in its latest Express Entry draw under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category. The cut-off Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) was as low as 75. Yes - you read that right, Seventy-Five!

The unprecedented Express Entry draw is record breaking since its creation in 2015. Prior to this historic draw, CEC candidates needed approximately a minimum CRS of 468 or higher to get selected and receive an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for permanent residency (PR) in Canada. This latest draw applied to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class, meaning, those who have worked in Canada and have Canadian experience.

Mr. Marco Mendocino, Minister of Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada, mentioned in his recent tweet that “Canada set a record by issuing invitations to 27,332 skilled temporary workers with Canadian experience in a single draw for PR earlier this February. Five times greater than ANY single previous draw from the CEC pool and will accelerate our economic recovery.”

Indeed the news came as a great shock to immigration experts and applicants; however, it comes with Ottawa’s realization that it has to reach its immigration goals in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
