On June 7, 2022, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, announced significant changes to the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa, effective July 4, 2022.
The headline change: the length of stay per entry goes from two years to five.
People who already hold a Super Visa can apply from within Canada to extend their stay by up to two more years. That means a current Super Visa holder can now stay in Canada for up to seven consecutive years.
The minister will also be able to designate international medical insurance providers for Super Visa applicants. Until now, the required coverage had to come from a Canadian insurer.
